Jesse Marsch has admitted that he wanted to recruit Taiwo Awoniyi for Leeds United before the striker moved to Nottingham Forest.
The former Leeds head coach was thrilled with Awoniyi’s strike for Forest against West Ham United at the City Ground this weekend.

Well, Jesse Marsch has admitted that he considered signing Taiwo Awoniyi for Leeds United. The former Leeds manager made the announcement during Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League.
Marsch was in charge of Leeds from February 2022 to February 2023. The American, who sought to sign Benjamin Sesko, succeeded Marcelo Bielsa as head coach of the Whites and kept the club in the Premier League.
However, with the club on the verge of relegation to the Championship, Leeds fired Marsch in February 2023. The West Yorkshire club finished in the bottom three of the Premier League table this season. They are currently seeking for automatic promotion.
Marsch has already stated that he hopes to sign Awoniyi from Union Berlin in the summer of 2022. The 26-year-old striker cost Nottingham Forest £17.5 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports).
Awoniyi scored for Forest in this weekend’s 2-0 Premier League triumph over West Ham United at the City Ground.

Marsch remarked of Awoniyi on Sky Sports Premier League (7:22 pm, February 19, 2024) while analyzing his goal against West Ham: “Yeah, we looked at him for Leeds, and he also came from the Bundesliga. Good player. Technically extremely good, strong, rapid, with a great touch there.”
Taiwo Awoniyi is doing well at Nottingham Forest.
Taiwo Awoniyi has had injury issues at Nottingham Forest, but when he is in form, he plays brilliantly and scores key goals.
This season, the 26-year-old has made 11 Premier League starts and three substitute appearances for Forest. He’s scored six goals and assisted twice in those games.
Last season, the striker made 17 Premier League starts and ten substitute appearances for the Reds. He had ten goals and one assist in those games.
