Leeds United did not have it easy against Plymouth Argyle, but they did enough to secure another victory.
The Whites are undefeated in 2024, having won eight consecutive games under Daniel Farke. They currently sit second in the Championship and are riding high on momentum.
Leeds won 2-0 yesterday, with goals from Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter. Unlike their last victory over Swansea, Plymouth put up a good fight.
Plymouth applied pressure in the second half of the game, keeping Illan Meslier busy. Just when it appeared that Leeds were losing their composure, Farke’s tactical move paid off, as Joel Piroe became a provider for Rutter.
Rutter turned to Instagram after the game to convey his feelings. He published, “The Life of Johnny (Translated)”.
Gnonto responded to his message with the phrase “Man of the Match”.
Rutter makes a huge turnaround in Leeds
Rutter joined Leeds last season during the January transfer window, when the club was in the Premier League. The Whites spent approximately £30 million ($37 million) and broke their transfer record.
The 21-year-old failed to adjust to the pace of the league, and the signing appeared to be a disaster. Leeds were relegated, and many feared that Rutter would be sold in the summer.
Farke, on the other hand, most likely believed he could get the best from him. All Rutter needed was time and some faith from his manager.
The former Hoffenheim attacker has primarily played behind the striker and has 11 assists in the Championship this season. He has also scored six goals thus far.
Leicester City still leads the league table, and they are practically untouchable. Leeds lead Southampton by two points, despite the fact that the Saints have played one less game. If Leeds can keep this kind of performance going for the rest of the season, they will have a chance to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.
