Leeds United won their eighth successive Championship game with a 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle.
The Whites had to overcome some difficult moments in the game to get three points against a team that had not lost in nine home games.
Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter will once again emerge victorious, with the former scoring five goals in as many games.
However, it was at the other end that Leeds performed admirably, keeping their seventh clean sheet in an eight-game winning streak. A truly fantastic record.
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier played an important role in that, and Jon Newsome, speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the game, believes he just gave his greatest performance of the season.
Meslier delivers the best performance of the season.
He replied, “Yes, excellent. Meslier delivered one of his best efforts to date, in my opinion. I thought his decision-making was dead on; he came in, punched, and cleared his lines when needed.
“That catch at the death was fantastic. His kicking was excellent; there were two or three instances where he scuffed it, but you never played a flawless game. “But he was at his best today.”
Meslier only made one stop during the game, but it was his command of his area that he excelled at today, something he has battled with in previous months.
Plymouth crowded him on every set-piece, but he dealt with it admirably, producing three clean punches as well as a pressure-relieving catch.
Daniel Farke has stated several times this season that he believes Meslier is the greatest goalkeeper in the division, but today’s performance is certainly something he can build on.
