Leeds United are set to pursue a permanent deal for Joe Rodon at the conclusion of the season, particularly if the Whites win promotion, but Carlton Palmer has advised his former club not to overspend.
Rodon, 26, has been a rock at the back for Leeds thus far. Rodon has helped Leeds retain 14 clean sheets in 32 games this season. We’ve won six out of our last seven league games.
Earlier this season, it was reported that Spurs might consider selling him for a fee in the region of £20 million. His contract with Spurs expires in June 2025, with a final year in the summer.
Mystery Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the center-back. There have been reports that Rodon will cost less than the £20 million projected, but that is too much for Palmer.
The former Leeds midfielder feels the club should only invest £8 million to sign Rodon, claiming he has no future with Ange Postecoglou’s side. He thinks he’s good enough for the Premier League.
“Will he return to Spurs? No, he will not. £10 million to £15 million is a lot of money, therefore at the end of the season, Leeds United will look at when they get promoted and where they see it,” Palmer told FLW.
“I believe [Rodon’s] value is around £8 million. £10 to £15 million is simply too much. If Leeds is elevated, the conversation must be had. “He can step up and play in the Premier League,” Palmer said.
Carlton Palmer believes Leeds should pay only £8 million on Joe Rodon.
It will be interesting to hear what happens at the end of the season. Spurs will want to cash in on Rodon, especially after signing Radu Dragusoin to cover for Cristian Romero and speedy Micky van de Ven.
But, with a year left on his contract and no future at Spurs, Leeds can undoubtedly use that to their advantage. Promotion is necessary, however, considering his interest from other Premier League clubs.
