Rangers won the thrilling Old Firm game 3-2 at Celtic Park on Sunday, leaving Chris Sutton scrambling.
The Bears led 2-0 at halftime owing to goals from Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande, before Celtic equalised through Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.
The Light Blues won late on when Hamza Igamane pounced onto Jack Butland’s long goal kick and smashed it home.
Rangers remain 13 points behind league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, but will be pleased to have defeated their rivals for the second time this season.
Sutton is called out by Savage for the Rangers dig live on television.
Sutton posted the following on X after the Bears’ victory at Celtic Park: “Excellent advertisement for the Scottish match.
“Igamane deserves to win every game because he took his goal so well. In summary, with eight games remaining, the best team is 13 points ahead.
“I know who I would prefer to be. Bravo to Rangers, who perform admirably when they are not under pressure or expectation.
However, Robbie Savage expressed his displeasure with his colleague’s remarks to Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live, saying: “I must say, Chris, before you discuss anything else, I saw your tweet earlier.
Extremely pitiful.
“Give Rangers some credit; they are currently Scotland’s best team.”
Rangers must try to build on their Old Firm victory’s confidence.
Thanks to their thrilling victory over Fenerbahce in a penalty shootout last week, the Light Blues are now having an incredible Europa League run and will play Bilbao in the quarterfinals.
However, despite their thrilling victory against their rivals on Sunday, the Gers are still 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, highlighting how difficult domestic football has been for them this season.
Rangers lost 2-1 to Motherwell in their most recent Premiership home game, and they haven’t won at Ibrox since interim manager Barry Ferguson took over.
The Light Blues also lost 1-0 to Queen’s Park last month, which sent them out of the Scottish Cup early, and they lost to Celtic in a penalty shootout to terminate their League Cup campaign.
Ferguson’s team must take advantage of Sunday’s noteworthy victory as motivation to continue and enjoy a successful conclusion to a season that has frequently been tumultuous.
