Rangers have had a difficult season domestically, falling farther behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The Ibrox club lost on penalties to Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Scottish League Cup final in December, and they sit 16 points behind in the Scottish Premiership rankings.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement was fired last month, and former captain Barry Ferguson took over on an interim basis until the end of the season.
The 49ers Enterprises-backed acquisition appears to be moving forward, with various reports stating an agreement has now been reached in principle.
The US group, which includes Leeds United chairman and health insurance mogul Andrew Cavenagh, is seeking to gain a majority acquisition and control of the Ibrox boardroom by purchasing at least 51% of the club’s shares.
Stefan Borson, a finance expert, told Football Insider confidentially that he would treat the recent developments with caution until an official declaration was made.
Former chairman Dave King is currently the top shareholder in the Glasgow side at 13 per cent, with several other stakeholders owning minority shares.
Rangers set to make takeover news soon
Borson revealed that the Rangers’ takeover is likely to be completed once the current season ends.
He told Football Insider: “The thing I don’t understand is why there haven’t been any public announcements about it, especially since it’s been heavily trailed.”
“Until we have formal confirmation, I would probably just take it with a pinch of salt.”
“But again, it feels like that would be completed in the close season, ready for next season.
