As the 2024/25 season draws to a close, Rasmus Kristensen’s future at Leeds United appears to have been determined.
The right-back was signed to Elland Road a few seasons ago to help strengthen the club’s defensive lines, but he has failed to meet expectations.
However, since the West Yorkshire club was relegated from the top flight, the Dane chose to leave and has seemingly not looked back.
And, as the summer transfer window approaches, there is a new update on Kristensen’s future with the Whites.
Kristensen’s next destination will be Frankfurt.
While reports of the right-back’s permanent move to Bundesliga club Frankfurt have circulated all season, it now appears that this is a formality.
The defender has been in decent form for the Germans this season and has now begun to live up to the potential he had at RB Salzburg.
However, with a return to Leeds unlikely due to his shattered relationship with the fans, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth sees him only in Frankfurt.
“He’s expected to leave this summer, so it’s a case of when, not if,” he remarked on the Inside Elland Road Podcast on March 5.
“It seems very likely that it will be Frankfurt; they want to keep him. That will happen. It would be really shocking if he went anyplace else. “He’s gone.”
Leeds should cut their losses with Kristensen.
Leeds appear to be well on their path to promotion to the Premier League, so preparations for the approaching summer transfer window must begin.
While there are many areas of the Leeds team that may be strengthened to secure their survival, their number nine and full-backs should be at the top of their priority list.
Indeed, Junior Firpo and Jayden Bogle have both had great Championship seasons, but if their previous experiences in the top level are any indication, Farke may benefit from more reinforcement.
This season, the Whites have been a dominant force in the second division, but no matter how many players they add to their team next season, they will be on the back foot.
So, in reality, Leeds’ full-backs need to be more defensive than they are now, which is why cutting losses with Kristensen is the wisest option.
His sale will provide additional revenue for Leeds, which is good because they will want all trade monies available if they want to stay in the Premier League next season.
