If it weren’t for the Europa League, Rangers’ season would have been one for the books in terms of how terrible it was.
Arguments over where the current Rangers squad fits into the annuls of history may be exaggerated, in a negative way, but football is an emotional sport, and the Ibrox faithful are not impressed with what they have seen.
The one aspect of life as a Rangers fan that is lifting spirits is the proposed takeover by the San Francisco 49ers, with the raucous neighbors becoming concerned about their future.
Celtic fans are scared of Rangers takeover talks.
On The Celtic Exchange podcast, David Low, a crucial role in Celtic’s historic 1994 takeover that saw Fergus McCann rush to power and reshape Scottish football forever, shared his financial expertise and a dose of realism with his fellow fans:
“This is a game changer and indeed, if these San Francisco guys get in, this is their Fergus McCann moment because it means we have people capable of constructing a platform for moving forward like McCann and his team did.”
The current Rangers board was the proper people ten years ago, on March 6, 2015, but they have carried the club as far as they can, and it is time to move on and sell up.
Why Celtic fans should be concerned about Rangers.
It’s easy for Rangers fans to get carried away, but when a respected Celtic voice shows indications of alarm, perhaps a new dawn is on the horizon after all.
With no debts or court cases hanging over the club, Ibrox looking back to her best, the Auchenhowie training ground a facility fit for Europe’s elite clubs, and New Edmiston House a welcome venue for fans to congregate on match days, the 49ers Enterprises group intent on acquiring control of the club should be able to focus on what really matters – what happens on the pitch.
This is what really worries them. They’ve had their way for far too long.
If there is stability and a plan to move Rangers to the next level off the pitch, it will only benefit Rangers on the pitch.
