Liverpool’s midfield has played a significant role in the Reds’ current position atop the Premier League table with 10 games remaining.
It appears that Arne Slot is on track to win Liverpool’s 20th league title in May.
When the season is over, the midfield trio most identified with this Liverpool team will most likely be Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis MacAllister, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Those three players were all signed during the 2023 summer transfer window, while fans had hoped to recruit Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid.
In addition to the three regular starters, Curtis Jones has made a significant influence on Slot’s Liverpool.
And, as seen in the new video detailing Jurgen Klopp’s final months with the Reds, Pep Lijnders made a claim about Bellingham, Jones, and Declan Rice that is suddenly looking plausible.
Curtis Jones defends Pep Lijnders’ ‘complete’ assertion.
Jones has not been a consistent starter this season. But if Liverpool goes on to win the Premier League, he may still claim to have played a significant role in their triumph.
The 24-year-old has played in 23 of the Reds’ 28 league games, starting 12. He has three goals and three assists.
Jones has primarily played as one of the two deeper midfielders, but he has occasionally appeared in the number 10 position.
Jones recently played wide left in a draw with Aston Villa before assuming the role of a de facto false nine against Manchester City.
These effective stance modifications support a point made by Lijnders in Amazon Prime’s ‘Doubters to Believers’ documentary.
“Most complete midfield: Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Curtis Jones,” says the former Liverpool assistant manager, before returning to his seat with a smile.
Jones has the data to back it up.
Jones’ positional alterations aren’t the only thing that suggests Lijnders was correct in labeling him ‘complete’.
