Robin Propper was floored as Kilmarnock took the lead over Rangers at Rugby Park on Wednesday night.
Joe Wright scored his first goal in Scottish football, heading in Fraser Murray’s corner kick at the back post in the 11th minute of the Scottish Premiership match.
However, Jack Butland and his teammates were outraged by Don Robertson’s decision to allow the goal after Propper, 30, fell to the ground during the build-up.
Keith Hackett: No issue with Kilmarnock’s opener against Rangers.
Former PGMOL general manager Keith Hackett praised referee Robertson and VAR Steven McLean for their reaction to Killie’s opening goal.
McLean quickly checked Robertson’s on-field decision to let Wright’s headed effort to remain on the scoreboard, allowing the game to continue without interruption.
Hackett, who has refereed in the Premier League and FIFA events, does not believe Propper committed a foul despite leaving Wright unguarded on the deck.
“It was a good goal, and VAR helped the referee,” Hackett told Ibrox News.
“There was no offence on the Rangers player who went to ground.”
Propper awful defense as Rangers fall behind
Propper has once again delivered a terrible performance in the Rangers’ defense.
Propper and Clinton Nsiala were unexpectedly placed together by Barry Ferguson in his first game as interim manager, despite their poor performance under Philippe Clement.
And, while Nsiala was hooked inside half an hour, Ferguson would have been justified in taking off the 31-year-old Dutchman.
It would be a wonder if Propper stayed at Ibrox beyond the end of the season. At the very least, he should lose his normal starting position.
The ex-Twente centre-back’s debut season at Ibrox has yielded little good feedback.
If anything, the less you say about him, the better.
