With Monday night’s amazing win, Leeds United are currently five points clear of Sheffield United, bringing them closer than ever to automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds have 75 points after just 34 games, and with 36 points to play for, Daniel Farke’s players appear to be on track to complete a century on the final day when the Whites go to struggling Plymouth.
A total of 90 points usually gets clubs promoted, and that is only five wins away for a team that has fallen behind in games against Sunderland and Sheffield United but shown the resilience to win.
Leeds are well-positioned to secure promotion, with five points clear of Sheffield United, seven ahead of third-placed Burnley, and 12 ahead of Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland. Troy Deeney has given his say.
Troy Deeney anticipates when Leeds United will confirm promotion.
Leeds face West Brom on Saturday, followed by games against Portsmouth, Millwall, and QPR. Leeds would need another 12 points to reach 87.
Speaking to TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning (25/02, 6.05AM), Championship icon Deeney believes Leeds will be promoted to the Premier League within four weeks.
“They should be completed within four weeks. “You’re not going to change the manager; he’s previously played in the Premier League with Norwich, and the Premier League needs Leeds,” Deeney said of Leeds.
Who is the superior side – Leeds this season, or last?
Last season, Leeds had to rely heavily on individuals. Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, both capable of attacking magic, would frequently drag Leeds through games. A comeback in Norwich comes to mind.
This season, the collective is far more impressive. Leeds may lack a £40 million player in Rutter and a Championship Player of the Season in Summerville, but the team is more balanced.
Deeney stated, “They had better individuals last year, but they’re a better team this year.” They’ve moved on, reorganized the squad, and are currently in this fantastic position with 75 points, having lost only three games all season.”
Leeds are also scoring from all over the pitch; everyone is chipping in, and Joel Piroe has already scored more goals than he did last season. This is a superior Leeds, but without the star quality.
