Liverpool, Arsenal, and Barcelona are all interested in the Newcastle striker.
Alexander Isak of Newcastle United scored his 50th Premier League goal over the weekend, propelling himself into the record books. Following that, the striker delivered another message to Liverpool, Barcelona, and Arsenal on his future plans.
Speculation about Isak stays frequent. The Swede’s outstanding form this season and last has sparked transfer speculation, with a number of European heavyweights casting envious glances at St James’ Park.
Isak’s two goals against Nottingham Forest brought his total to 50 Premier League goals in just 76 games. Only six players in the competition’s history have reached the 50 club faster, including Erling Haaland, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Mohamed Salah, and Fernando Torres, demonstrating how good Isak has been.
That form indicates that transfer rumors persist, although Isak continues to refute them. The 25-year-old says that playing for Newcastle is ‘particularly wonderful’ and that he is content in the Premier League, amid speculation of a return to La Liga, where he played for Real Sociedad before joining Newcastle for £63 million.
He told Prime Video Svergie: “Playing football at this level has always been a dream of mine, and it is certainly the most important dream that I have. Playing in the Premier League for a team like Newcastle, with such a strong fan base, is especially special.”
Barcelona had identified Isak as a major target to strengthen their striker position. Robert Lewandowski remains a starter for Barcelona, although he will be 37 next season. Liverpool, who face Newcastle on Wednesday night in the Premier League in what will be a curtain-raiser for the Carabao Cup final, have emerged as the front-runner for the striker, as they look to rebuild their attack next season, with Salah’s future uncertain and Darwin Nunez failing to impress.
Newcastle will be looking to qualify for the Champions League while retaining Isak. Even if they do not qualify for Europe’s top club competition next season, they have promised to keep their finest players now that FFP requirements have been relaxed.
Manager Eddie Howe added: “Neither I nor anyone at Newcastle wants to see Alex go. He is very much a part of our long-term goals. Personally, I do not see that as an issue.
“It’s huge [50 Premier League goals], and when he plays like he did in the first half, he’s fantastic for us. He demonstrated his pace, and the timing of the run was superb. “Big player.”
Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart warned the rest of Europe about Isak, claiming that he will only improve. “He’s so fit and so quick and he is always such a threat because he scores all sorts of goals,” said the player. “He’s different from the players above him on that list [of the quickest to 50 Premier League goals], and that’s part of what makes him so difficult to stop.”
“What I truly like about him is that he doesn’t simply look nice in front of the goal. He is clinical, of course, but he is also a team player. He’s a jewel for Newcastle, and at 25, he’s still young, motivated, and has the potential to improve even more.
