The iconic former Rangers captain, 47, will be joined by Ibrox veterans Neil McCann, Billy Dodds, and Alan McGregor in an Ibrox dream squad backroom crew.
Moroccan coach Issame Charai, who was due to take command of the Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock on Wednesday, will also remain on the staff.
Rangers announce Barry Ferguson.
Rangers have announced Barry Ferguson and the rest of the Ibrox icons to their backroom staff through official club channels.
Rangers have fired Philippe Clement and three of his coaching staff members, including Alex Rae, Colin Stewart, and Stephan Van Der Heyden.
The club insists that all four men will ‘always be welcome at the club’.
Brian Gilmour will remain in situ as he looks to bridge the gap between the Rangers first-team and the club’s academy.
The Rangers dream team of ex-players are only anticipated to be in control until the end of the season, with the Gers assuring a new permanent manager ‘will be selected in the coming months’.
Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart discusses Philippe Clement’s firing following a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren at Ibrox.
The now-former Rangers manager has had a dismal domestic season, allowing Celtic to complete their sixth treble in nine seasons.
Stewart had openly supported Clement following Rangers’ unexpected Scottish Cup loss at Queen’s Park, but the Rangers manager was unable to stem the tide of defeat to St Mirren.
Stewart has said that the ‘team’s attitude’ to the Scottish Cup exit has forced the board ‘to believe that action had to be taken’
“Philippe and his team have worked tirelessly during their time in at the club and have played an important role in developing the first team’s young players,” Stewart said on behalf of Rangers.
“I’d like to underline that the problems we’re dealing with go beyond the management. The ongoing football study aims to address these shortcomings, and we will continue to execute its recommendations in the coming weeks and months before choosing a new, permanent manager.
“When I spoke with RangersTV last week, I made it clear that everyone is judged on their results, and no one would be given infinite time in any job at the club. Finally, the team’s reaction to their early elimination from the Scottish Cup was reason for serious anxiety, prompting the board to decide that action needed to be taken immediately.
“I wish Philippe every success in the future. He is a nice man, and I’ve loved working with him in my short time here.
“I also want to welcome Barry back to the club. We appreciate him and his team stepping into the role at this difficult time. Myself, the board and the executive team will give them our full support for the rest of the campaign.”
