Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo rued a costly first-half spell as Nottingham Forest suffered a third successive away defeat in the Premier League.
The Reds had taken the lead against Newcastle United courtesy of a Callum Hudson-Odoi strike with six minutes on the clock. However, their opponents turned the game around by scoring four goals in 11 minutes to take a comfortable lead into the break.
Forest put in a better performance in the second half and mounted a good response. Nikola Milenkovic and Ryan Yates reduced the deficit and gave the visitors a chance of snatching a draw. But with only three minutes added on at the end, Nuno’s side ran out of time to get a fourth and ultimately lost 4-3.
Asked what had gone wrong in that first-half spell, Nuno said: “I wish I could answer that question and be fair. But I’m honest, I really don’t know. And what I do know is not to share with you.
“It was a game of two different halves. First half, we started well with the goal but the momentum shifted and Newcastle were much better than us. They caused us huge problems, scored goals and there was a big gap in the score.
