Following yesterday’s win against Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both thanked Brennan Johnson on social media.
The Welshman scored a stoppage-time winner to give Tottenham a critical three points on Saturday afternoon.
Ange Postecoglou’s side trailed at halftime following Pascal Gross’ 17th-minute penalty. But goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson capped a much-improved second-half showing.
Johnson teamed up with Heung-Min Son for the winner, with the Tottenham captain sending an excellent ball for Johnson to smash home at the back post.
Both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison were thrilled by Johnson’s cameo performance.
Van de Ven and Maddison are surprised by Johnson’s display against Brighton.
Johnson came to Instagram after yesterday’s game to share a photo of himself enjoying his late win.
His teammates gathered beneath the post to congratulate him on securing three points for Spurs.
Maddison, Van de Ven, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all left remarks underneath, as did Spurs loanee Djed Spence.
It’s no secret that Johnson has faced a lot of criticism in recent weeks. The 22-year-old was benched yesterday after a dismal run of form.
Yesterday appeared to be another nearly day for Johnson, as he found himself in a couple promising circumstances but lacked confidence in the final third.
To his credit, he came just in time to be on the receiving end of Heung-Min Son’s delivery.
Johnson has yet to fulfill his full potential at Spurs, but he has showed glimpses of what he can do.
Tottenham fans may need to be patient with the former Nottingham Forest player as he adjusts to Postecoglou’s demands.
