Nottingham Forest rejects ‘perfect reinforcement’ as new contract discussions loom

Nottingham Forest failed to sign defender Federico Gatti during the summer window, according to an Italian report.

According to Tuttosport via calciomercato, the Reds would have paid “significant figures” for a player they considered as a “ideal reinforcement” for their defensive options.

The 26-year-old is a regular in Juventus’ back four, having started 29 of 34 Serie A and Champions League games in which he has been available, including serving as captain at times.

He has also played twice for Italy, but appears to be entirely committed to sticking in Turin, with reports suggesting that he is interested in signing a new deal that is less lucrative than the one Forest is claimed to be willing to provide.

The 26-year-old is thought to be solely focused on staying with Juve, and negotiations on a new contract, which began in September, might take a significant step ahead around the end of February.

Forest presently have many of defensive alternatives, with Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic serving as the foundation for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, although Morato and Willy Boly provide valuable backup.

However, considering the controversy around Murillo’s future, the Reds have been connected with other centre backs, with top clubs reportedly interested. The Brazilian signed a new long-term contract with Forest during the transfer window and is now working to help the club qualify for the Champions League.
