Eddie Howe was clearly upset at the end of Saturday’s game against Newcastle United, as Manchester City comprehensively dominated.
If there is one thing that irritates us about Eddie Howe, it is his constant attempt to turn negative situations into positive ones. After a horrible performance, he’ll always look for something good, and while we understand what he’s doing, we’d like him to come out and tell it like it is.
We’re sure he’s not sugar-coating things in the locker room because that would be a massive issue, but sometimes, as supporters, we just want to hear the hard truth and hear our manager confess things went wrong.
When we spoke with NUFC TV after the game yesterday, Eddie Howe came as near to saying it as we’re ever likely to get.
Eddie Howe admitted to being displeased with his performance in an interview, which can be considered harsh.
“It was a disappointing game. Disappointing outcome. We had a disappointing performance. We came here with high anticipation of what we could give, but it was not present today.”
Even when asked for positives with a leading question about improved second-half performance, Howe struggled.
“The second half went better. Lewey MIley was effective when he came on; he brought a sense of calm and poise to our game, as well as a fighting spirit and the ability to recover the ball quickly. But aside from that, I’m suffering.

Eddie Howe stated the performance was ‘difficult’ to witness.
The gaffer had not calmed down by the time he addressed the assembled media, with The Chronicle stating that he found it ‘difficult’ to witness.
“It was terrible to witness from the sidelines. We were a yard from where we needed to be, and we appeared to be reacting. We gave their talented technical players too much space.”They do have extremely good technical players, and I know a lot has been made of their run, but in my opinion, they’re still the best team in the Premier League.
“We played some difficult games here but were not competitive enough. We weren’t in their face enough, and when it came to a 50-50 split versus any direct opponent, we were losing too many battles. Ultimately, too many of those things will cost you matches.”
