Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in the final months of their current contracts at Liverpool, and talk about their futures is rife.
The Reds have faced uncertainty about their futures, with all three players linked to potential exits. Alexander-Arnold has been extensively linked with Real Madrid, while Van Dijk and Salah have also sparked interest because they can negotiate pre-contract agreements with overseas teams.
Al Hilal would be in “pole position” to acquire Salah if a new agreement with the Reds is not reached, given all three players are dangerously close to being free agents.
However, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has now stated that two of those players are close to signing new terms at Liverpool.
Contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah ‘as good as done’
On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson revealed that deals for Van Dijk and Salah are nearing completion. However, he noted that Alexander-Arnold’s status still remains unclear and that he doesn’t foresee “wholesale changes” even if players leave.
This follows Mick Brown’s exclusive statement to Football Insider that Liverpool does not expect a final decision from Alexander-Arnold until the conclusion of the season.
Robinson revealed: “But for what we’re hearing and what we’re getting out of Liverpool, we’re hearing that, well, I’m hearing from my sources that Van Dijk and Mo Salah are as good as done, and Trent is the one that isn’t done, which is the one that we’ve suspected all along, right?”
“So I think Mo Salah staying at Liverpool for another two years makes a lot of sense; pay him what he wants, he’s the best player in the Premier League. Van Dijk is also capable, despite his age.
“I don’t see a complete overhaul of the forward lineup. Yes, I see a certain movement. When new managers arrive, I believe he has been quite clever this year in his role.
“He mentioned what Jurgen Klopp has done. He claimed this is not my side, but his. I’m making tweaks, doing little bits and bobs, but every time they win or have a good result, this is Jurgen Klopp’s team, and I’m just adding my touches to it. I believe that in the future, he will sign contracts and make adjustments.
“I don’t think there’s going to be wholesale changes at Liverpool in the summer” .
Arne Slot may need to prepare for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher advised the team not to sign a successor. If Alexander-Arnold departs owing to the development of Conor Bradley.
Many fans and pundits have backed Bradley to step up, and the young full-back has performed admirably when called upon.
While Van Dijk and Salah’s deals are nearing completion, their academy graduate’s future remains uncertain. However, given the team’s good record under Slot, a significant summer rebuild may not be necessary since they presently top the Premier League by seven points.
