Nottingham Forest’s winger Jota Silva scored his first Premier League goal against Brighton.
Jota Silva, a winger, has been told that his impact on Nottingham Forest is limitless.
The summer signing scored his first Premier League goal last weekend, securing the Reds’ 7-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. The match was also significant because it marked Jota’s 250th career game.
The 25-year-old’s achievement was a source of pride for his first club, Portuguese side Sousense. And club president Pedro Carvalho believes Jota’s best is yet to come as he continues to adjust to English football and hopes to help Nuno Espirito Santo’s third-placed team win European football this season.
“I have no doubt that he will make a name for himself in the English league and have a remarkable career in international football,” Carvalho stated of Jota. “But it’s difficult to draw a line under someone with such a strong mentality, that of a predestined athlete, and a career filled with overcoming challenges.
“Jota is a fantastic player; he exudes soul and charm, and he has boundless energy. Throughout his career, he has exceeded the expectations placed on him, therefore the sky is the limit, to quote the famous expression. With a career like this, no one dares to claim Jota won’t succeed because they risk being rejected.
“His short-term aims will almost probably be to establish himself as an indisputable starter at Forest and to raise his goal and assist totals. In the medium to long term, he plans to make his European tournament debut. Playing in the Champions League is surely one of his goals, as is being called up to the national squad again so that he may make his scoring debut for Portugal.
Jota spent two seasons with fifth-tier side Sousense, climbing the football ladder in his home Portugal before moving to the City Ground from Vitoria Guimaraes. He has stated that challenging himself in the top tier of English football was always a goal.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” Carvalho remarked of his former team achieving 250 games. “Jota is basically a Sousense ambassador, representing our training and ideals.
“He’s a member of the Sousense family, and we’re thrilled with every accomplishment and success he accomplishes. His journey represents the realization of a desire shared by countless young athletes around the world: to become a football player. To watch one of our own, a youngster who began his journey here at the age of 11, succeed and feel like we were a part of his development, is the most satisfying thing a training club can hope for and strive to.”
