Given that this season is probably going to be Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s last one in red, Manchester United needs to make a midfield overhaul next summer.
Ruben Amorim hasn’t given the Brazilian many opportunities, citing his lack of effort as the reason for his cameo against FCSB, which was his first appearance in more than a month.
The Dane has started consecutive Europa League games, although the head coach seems amenable to his exit during the winter transfer window, and there are no intentions to offer him a new contract before it expires in the summer.
Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is being considered by the Red Devils to help cover the vacuum, according to Teamtalk. Before making a formal offer, they will spend the second part of the season scouting the Eagles star.
After his injured comeback, United will scout Wharton.
A recent groin injury and subsequent surgery have meant that more study will be necessary to determine the Englishman’s suitability. The 21-year-old has been on the club’s radar since his Blackburn Rovers days, and an approach was probably made given his early form for Oliver Glasner’s team.
Manchester City and Newcastle are also in the running for the “incredible” midfield talent, so United won’t be the only Premier League team keeping a close eye on the England international.
Palace spent £18 million to get him last year, and considering the interest he has attracted, they are not in a haste to let him go and will be hoping to make a large profit next summer.
According to sources that told TEAMtalk about Crystal Palace’s position on selling the midfield player and named two other significant Premier League clubs that are interested, Manchester United is still interested in Adam Wharton.
The England international was supposed to improve even more this season, but his growth and development have been hampered by surgery he had to have for a groin issue. Now that he is fully recovered, Wharton should be a key player for Palace in the second half of the campaign.
“TEAMtalk is aware that Manchester United intends to monitor Wharton over the next few weeks and months in order to evaluate the English player’s performance.
Newcastle and City are also competing
But according to insiders, Wharton will be scouted by more than just Manchester United. With an eye on a possible deal in the summer of 2025, top-four contender Newcastle United and defending Premier League champion Manchester City also intend to watch Wharton in the second half of the season.
Many have lauded Wharton’s reading of the game, which made former Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate give him a national team debut in 2024. He can play both defensively as a midfielder and further forward if needed.
The 20-time English league champions could definitely use someone with his skill set, and INEOS would also like that he is a native player.
