Leeds United face a significant stumbling hurdle in their bid to recruit Joe Rodon permanently from Tottenham.
Leeds United are interested in permanently signing Joe Rodon, but a deal is unlikely unless the club is promoted, according to Football Insider sources.
The Welshman joined Elland Road on a season-long loan from Premier League heavyweights Tottenham last summer, although there was no option to buy.
This means they will have to restart talks with Spurs to secure a deal for the Wales international.
Promotion is said to be a deciding factor in whether the Whites can sign the centre-back, who is likely to attract a lot of interest following his outstanding first half of the season in the Championship.
According to Football Insider, top-tier clubs are interested in the 26-year-old, but Leeds are set to remain in the running to keep Rodon despite significant competition.
Leeds, who are now just one point from the automatic promotion slots, are among the favourites to win promotion to the Premier League.
Rodon has been a standout for Daniel Farke’s team this season, making 29 starts across all competitions for the Yorkshire giants.
He has helped Leeds to the second-best defensive record in the second division this season, with only league leaders Leicester City having a better record.
Leeds are third in the Championship following their 1-0 win over Bristol City on Friday (2 February), their fifth straight league victory. Their next match is against Rotherham on Saturday afternoon (10 February).
