By Nottingham Forest’s standards, transfer deadline day was exceptionally quiet.
Fans have grown accustomed to Evangelos Marinakis laboring till late at night to complete four or five deals.
Instead, on deadline day, Forest added Tyler Bindon and Joe Ndala to the Reds roster.
Bindon has returned on loan to Reading, while Ndala will initially play in the academy.
James Ward-Prowse’s loan was cancelled, and he returned to West Ham United, so Nuno Espirito Santo’s sole focus will be on bringing Champions League football back to the City Ground.
In a season of highs with few setbacks, one of the most significant transactions in the last month was neither incoming nor exiting.
Nottingham Forest refused to examine the record bid for Murillo.
Two prospective signings are always intriguing, but Murillo’s new contract was undoubtedly the greatest news of the window.
Without the Brazilian defender and Nikola Milenkovic, the Reds may have been far worse off after forming a rock-solid relationship.
Forest’s decision to sign Murillo to a new contract was smart business, especially as other teams began to look around.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea were considering making an offer for the 22-year-old.
Chelsea had been interested in the centre-back for some time, and the Reds were thought to be aware of it, but Marinakis refused to entertain any proposals, including the possibility of a record transfer.
Evangelos Marinakis fulfilled Nuno Espirito Santo’s commitment.
With Forest soaring high, there may be a desire to strike while the iron is hot and bring in even more players.
However, there are instances when it is preferable to leave things alone. Throughout the transfer window, Nuno Santo has made it plain that he only wants players that want to join Forest.
Marinakis sought to add a striker, but a proposal to sign Yoanne Wissa from Brentford was rejected, as was a club record bid for Matheus Cunha.
What was more important to the Forest manager was keeping players, and his request was surely granted.
Following Saturday’s victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, Nuno stated: “I will repeat what I have been saying, not just to you (the media) but also to the club; our objective was to maintain the players.
“If it is something truly unique; if it is a piece – a player – that we desperately require and it is feasible, amazing, because we are not flawless, and if someone can assist us, fantastic. But it has to be someone very exceptional.”
