Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news: Reds could confirm deadline-day business before the winter window closes.
Nottingham Forest attacker Emmanuel Dennis is on the verge of leaving the club on deadline day.
The 27-year-old appears likely to join Blackburn Rovers. According to The Standard, the Reds have “decided against” incorporating a buy option in the six-month loan agreement.
Dennis is expected to undergo a medical before the move is confirmed. He has been linked with a number of teams, but it appears that Rovers have won the battle for his signature.
The Nigerian fell out of favour at the City Ground. He was left out of Liverpool’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season and hasn’t played for the club since May 2023.
According to reports, Dennis had talks with previous club Watford and French club Toulouse about a possible move. Werder Bremen of Germany is also said to be interested in signing him, and Sheffield Wednesday have recently been mentioned.
Dennis joined Forest from the Hornets in the summer of 2022 for a reputed £20 million cost. He has made 25 appearances for the Garibaldi and scored twice.
The last time he appeared for the Reds, he came off the bench against Crystal Palace on the final day of the 2022/23 season. He spent the previous season on loan with Turkish club Basaksehir before moving to Vicarage Road.
On transfer deadline day, Forest had very few periphery players to oversee moves for. Lewis O’Brien, like Dennis, was in that bracket and has recently joined Swansea City on loan.
Further exits from the City Ground before the window shuts at 11 p.m. are improbable. Earlier on deadline day, the Reds approved the return of midfielder James Ward-Prowse to parent club West Ham.
If Dennis’ move to Ewood Park goes through as planned, he will join former Red Yuri Ribeiro on Blackburn’s roster. Rovers have signed the left-back from Portuguese club Braga on a permanent basis until the end of the season.
