According to El Desmarque, Leeds United are “on the verge” of signing a Southampton striker after receiving a bid of £8.2 million for Mateo Joseph.
According to the Spanish news site (3 February), the Whites are close to signing a striker from Southampton, with links to both Cameron Archer [Adam Blackmore] and Adam Armstrong, both on loan.
Real Betis are thought to have made an £8.2 million approach for Joseph, which was rejected, with the Spanish publication stating that the introduction of a new striker could force the Whites to sell him.
With only hours left in the window, both teams will need to work quickly to finalize any prospective deal.
Leeds United poised to recruit an unknown Southampton striker.
While there are more than two options, Archer and Armstrong are undoubtedly the most likely to join Leeds, with the latter having the least chance. However, neither can be written off.
Both players would give a massive dose of quality for the Whites, giving Daniel Farke an even bigger selection headache than he already had, as neither is likely to settle for being an impact player.
The duo’s adaptability is likely to be their most appealing quality. Archer has demonstrated the capacity to play as a 10 or a nine, whilst Armstrong can lead the line or play wide left.
For that reason alone, attention may be drawn to Archer with the Whites recently exhibiting an interest in signing a number 10 this window.
Efforts will need to be cranked up to secure either deal with the window slamming shut at 11pm for English clubs.
