Information of a verbal altercation between Marcus Rashford and Ruben Amorim that resulted in Rashford’s expulsion from the Manchester United squad has surfaced.
After telling a journalist in a shocking interview in December that he was ready for a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford, Rashford has not played for United since.
The forward has missed all 12 of his team’s games in all competitions. Amorim stated that he would prefer to start United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping instructor Jorge Vital over a demoralized Rashford following last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Fulham.
The England international must improve his ways before Amorim can return Rashford, he later told the reporters.
Although Rashford has drawn a lot of interest, no club has taken any serious steps to sign him, in part because of his enormous salary.
Given that Aston Villa is nearing a loan deal with United, there is still a chance he will find a new home before the February 3 transfer deadline.
Only a few days into the Portuguese coach’s job, Rashford and Amorim’s relationship was in ruins, according to The Sun.
The issues between them date back to the days before the Red Devils defeated Everton 4-0 on December 1st, a match in which Rashford scored twice.
It is said that Amorim accused Rashford of going out on the town in a pre-game conversation. Rashford strongly refuted this allegation, even going so far as to request evidence from his manager.
“Marcus got called in by Amorim who said he believed he had breached discipline by going out,” a source told The Sun.
Marcus insisted he had done nothing wrong and denied it. He said something like, “Are you calling me a liar?” and demanded the manager to provide him the evidence that he had gone out.
“Their relationship has never been able to recover, and it seems unlikely that it ever will.”
According to the publication, Rashford thinks Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ordering Amorim to remove his £325,000 weekly salary off the books.
“Marcus believes Sir Jim wants him out of the club and has essentially told head coach Ruben Amorim to get him out,” the insider continued. With Sir Jim, he may have finally found his equal. Marcus believes that he is being singled out.
“He was trying to learn new systems in the early days of training under Amorim, and other players were having trouble as well — but he was the one who was receiving more outspoken criticism.”
He is aware that he must go, but he is surprised that no major team has made every effort to get him. Although there has been interest, several clubs have been turned off by the convoluted financial deal.
“Marcus is perplexed by how rapidly his relationship with Amorim has fallen apart.”
After Rashford was spotted partying in Belfast for hours before calling the club to let them know he was too sick to train, then-manager Erik ten Hag dropped him for an FA Cup match against Newport County last year.
Two weeks’ pay were punished to him.
Ten Hag had previously criticized Rashford in October 2023 for being spotted having a party on his 26th birthday only hours before United’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
When United hosts Crystal Palace on Sunday, they will resume their playing schedule. The game will begin at 14:00 GMT.
