Liverpool are expected to explode into life this summer after a quiet winter transfer season.
In a conversation with Gary Lineker near the end of a quiet January transfer window, Arne Slot said what every Liverpool fan has hoped for.
“We are definitely working on strengthening this summer,” the Reds manager told Lineker on Football Focus.
Express Sport takes a look at six players who may transfer to Anfield if Slot delivers on his pledge…
Florian Wirtz
The German international could be nearing the conclusion of his final season with Bayer Leverkusen. And it is expected to be his most prolific season yet, with 15 goals in all competitions from attacking midfield.
Liverpool is one of several heavyweight European clubs interested in 21-year-old Wirtz, who is also being pursued by Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Johan Bakayoko
Liverpool may require a strong presence on the wing to replace Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave for Saudi Arabia. Bakayoko falls into that bracket, and the Reds will be well aware of his abilities after scoring in PSV Eindhoven’s 3-2 victory over them on Wednesday night.
Liverpool were widely linked with the 21-year-old last summer and could make another move for him at the conclusion of the season.
Mark Guehi
Over the last year, almost every Premier League club with money and ambition expressed an interest in signing Guehi. Newcastle United had a £65 million bid rejected last summer, while Chelsea is rumored to be looking for a reunion with its former academy star.
Liverpool are also said to be in the running. And if Guehi does leave Crystal Palace, it will almost certainly be this summer, as his contract expires in June 2026. Signing a star of Guehi’s caliber will be critical if Virgil van Dijk allows his contract to expire and departs Anfield for free.
Milos Kerkez
Liverpool must prepare for a future without Andrew Robertson at left-back after his form has dipped. And Bournemouth sensation Kerkez is a notable possibility, having scored five goals for the high-flying Cherries this season at the age of just 21. Manchester United is also thought to be interested in the Hungarian.
Jeremiah Frimpong
Trent Alexander–Arnold is widely anticipated to join Real Madrid in the summer, leaving a large gap at right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong has long been linked with a transfer to Anfield. Like Alexander-Arnold, he provides some of the finest attacking production in Europe for his position, and the Leverkusen star is having another excellent season, with six goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances.
Jorrel Hato
An 18-year-old Ajax defender, has played over 100 senior games and represented the Netherlands five times.
Hato was spotted in the stands watching Liverpool beat Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday, which sparked excitement among fans. But the teenager has subsequently confirmed that he was invited to the game by his compatriot, Ryan Gravenberch.
