Report: Nottingham Forest handed a golden opportunity as Arsenal makes game-changing decision on Matheus Cunha

Nottingham Forest are attempting to finalize their roster ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline, with quality taking precedence over quantity.

Evangelos Marinakis wants to sign a new forward this month. The Reds are presently third in the Premier League, and the Forest owner is eager to keep the club in contention as the season comes to a close.

A lot of strikers have been linked to the Reds. Igor Jesus has been on the Forest’s radar for some time, and it is evident that Botafogo would welcome bids of around £30 million for his services this month.

Jamie Redknapp believes Yoane Wissa will cost £40 million this month. With that in mind, the likelihood of Forest signing him following recent links seems a little improbable given how famously tough it is to sign players in January.

Arsenal pull out of the Matheus Cunha race.

Unfortunately for Forest, Arsenal, one of the two clubs above them in the Premier League rankings, is also in desperate need of a striker before the window closes.

That means the two clubs are looking for the same players, with Forest and Arsenal both interested in Wolves’ Matheus Cunha before the transfer season closes next week.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal will not try to sign Cunha before the deadline. Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak are also on their list, and both appear out of reach for the Gunners.

Forest would most likely refuse to pay £60 million themselves. However, if Arsenal is focused on other goals, negotiations with Wolves may be easier.

Morgan Gibbs-White endorses Matheus Cunha’s transfer.

In the past, when the two were on the field together as opponents, they threw sarcastic remarks at each other. Cunha has previously mocked Gibbs-White’s celebration, but the two appear to get along well.

Gibbs-White praised Cunha after a 2-2 draw with Wolves last season. It’s clear that the Forest man doesn’t have a great relationship with Wolves fans following his acrimonious departure and is often keen to rub the salt in.

Getting Cunha and Gibbs-White on the pitch in unison might prove fatal. Forest may welcome a player who is a little more than a centre-forward and Cunha has demonstrated his versatility at Wolves.
