Leeds United have enquired about the possibility of signing Matt Targett from Newcastle, according to The Athletic.
The outlet reported via their website on 28 January that the Magpies are considering offers for the 29-year-old before the winter transfer window closes on 3 February.
It now remains to be seen if the West Yorkshire outfit will go forward with their interest in the Premier League left-back and make a move to sign him.
Daniel Farke to sign Matt Targett at Leeds United?
Leeds United have had a quiet transfer window as they are yet to make a signing. However, they could now be set for an interesting end to the window, with Targett revealed to be on their shortlist.
It is no secret that left-back is a position that the Whites would need to address soon anyway as Junior Firpo is now in the final six months of his contract at Elland Road.
Although the Championship club also have Isaac Schmidt in their ranks, Firpo is the only left-footed full-back among senior players.
Furthermore, Farke may also be interested to add more Premier League experience to his defence if Leeds gain promotion this season.
Therefore, a move for Targett, whose contract at Newcastle runs until 2026, makes sense for the Elland Road outfit.
It is worth noting that Eddie Howe described him as a “outstanding” player for 2022 [Sky Sports].
There is no reason why the Magpies would not be eager to sell the defender, who has made only one Premier League appearance this season.
