Tottenham face a difficult scenario as injuries continue to plague their team, with the most recent setback being the absence of forward Dominic Solanke.
The English forward, who has been important for Spurs this season, had a knee injury during training earlier this month and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks. His absence has already cost him three games, and he is now expected to miss the important second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
Manager Ange Postecoglou revealed the seriousness of Solanke’s injury, triggering requests for more players in the last days of the January transfer window.
John Wenham: Tottenham will now be in talks in the background to bring in a new striker.
The owner of Lilywhite Rose, John Wenham, expressed his concerns over the club’s tardy response to addressing squad depth. He insisted that Solanke’s injury serve as a wake-up call, pressing Tottenham to make a serious move to sign another striker before the deadline.
Wenham emphasised the enormous blow Solanke’s absence has done to the team, emphasizing the necessity for action.
Speaking with Tottenham News, the pundit stated:
“Solanke being ruled out for six weeks is terrible news. Whatever the club has done in recent weeks to support the manager with signings has fallen short. So, maybe, this serves as a wake-up call.”
“Losing your best player for six weeks is a tremendous setback. As a result, I’d think that discussions are currently on to bring in a new striker as soon as feasible.”
This transfer window, the club has been linked with a number of forwards, notably Randal Kolo Muani of PSG. However, the Frenchman decided to join Juventus.
The latest to be connected is versatile Spanish attacker Nico Williams, with sources indicating that the club is willing to activate his release clause.
Solanke has proven to be an important part of Spurs’ assault since joining from Bournemouth for a club record cost of €64.3 million in August last year. In his debut season, he has 11 goals and six assists in 29 games across all competitions, putting him Tottenham’s second-highest Premier League scorer after James Maddison. (Transfermarkt)
Solanke has made significant contributions in Europe, notably scoring his first UEFA Europa League goal in a 3-0 win over Qarabağ FK.
Although Richarlison has returned to full fitness following a hamstring injury, it is unclear whether Postecoglou will rely solely on the Brazilian to lead the line while Solanke recovers.
With the January transfer window closing, Tottenham must make a critical decision: trust their current squad or move quickly to sign a new striker to stabilize their season.
