Nottingham Forest and the transfer window are often associated with the infamous 2022 summer transfer spree under Steve Cooper, which may be unfair.
A total of 23 new signings arrived at the Forest training camp in the summer of 2022, as Cooper sought to construct a strong enough side to compete in the Premier League.
In hindsight, the success rate was fairly realistic. Morgan Gibbs-White joined from Wolves and is now one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s key players, with Liverpool considering him as a future addition.
Another success has been Danilo, who recently returned from injury for Forest. Danilo signed for Forest from Palmeiras and had begun to truly assert himself in the Premier League after slowly earning his place in the Forest squad in the 2022/23 season.
With the number of incoming players that year, though, there were bound to be some less memorable names. One of whom was a striker who was picked out by Evangelos Marinakis for his Premier League pedigree, but now looks set to drop down to the Championship.
Emmanuel Dennis might quit Nottingham Forest with Championship side interested
Emmanuel Dennis joined Forest in August 2022 after scoring ten Premier League goals for Watford in the previous season, although he would never duplicate that form at the City Ground.
Forest were set to let Dennis depart in 2023 with the striker only a year into his tenure at the club, but a string of loans has meant that the Nigerian is still on the books at Forest, earning £40,000 per week according to Capology.
Another deal for Dennis is expected in January, according to Sheffield Wednesday journalist Alex Miller, who claims the Owls are interested in the Forest player.
Miller is aware that Dennis is “one of the striker options being considered at Wednesday.” However, in a subsequent tweet, Miller explained that “This [Dennis] would probably be a tricky deal to sort out if he even ended up being the man Wednesday go for.”
Previous sources have stated that Dennis is interested in England, Spain, and Italy, but his high salary may make any deal to sell him tough for the Forest owner.
His profits will put a constant strain on Marinakis, who must be regretting ever approving the agreement, especially given how many Forest players he out-earns.
Emmanuel Dennis makes more than the first-team Nottingham Forest stars.
Given that Forest are only two years out from the historic summer window when Dennis signed, his salary remains alarmingly exorbitant in compared to some of his teammates.
Dennis apparently makes the same as star signing Elliot Anderson and Murillo, who recently signed a new Forest contract.
More remarkable, however, is the amount of players he out-earns. Despite Arne Slot praised Matz Sels for his performance against Liverpool, the shot-stopper is paid less per week than Dennis.
The most incredible disparity exists between Dennis and Anthony Elanga. Newcastle want to make Elanga their star signing in the future, but the Swedish international currently earns nearly half as much as Dennis.
Clearly, Marinakis will be wanting to see Dennis depart in January, with Sheffield Wednesday’s interest hopefully absolving him of a costly blunder from 2022.
