Class is permanent, as the £6 million Leeds United target rediscovers his golden touch, and that weekend brace put an end to his temporarily poor form.
Nowadays, offensive depth isn’t a major problem at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke had the option of bringing Largie Ramazani off the bench when Leeds United faced Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
Scoring one and assisting another in a brilliant cameo display, Ramazani nearly single-handedly – with the help of Ao Tanaka’s heel – transformed a 1-0 advantage into a 3-0 success.
Yet, with Manor Solomon’s future unsure beyond his present loan spell, with Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt facing summer exits, Leeds do appear to be setting the foundations for a potential shake-up of their offensive options.
Leeds apparently adore Real Salt Lake sensation Diego Luna. Alvyn Sanches, a Swiss league superstar, is a ‘solid’ target for Elland Road. Dor Turgeman, for example, is another name to watch out for.
Dor Turgeman finds form to justify his Leeds United links.
Leeds were connected with Turgeman, a £6 million-rated player and friend of Manor Solomon, in mid-December.
However, as he began a stretch of five consecutive league games without a goal for Maccabi Tel Aviv, the 21-year-old’s form dwindled as he found himself under scrutiny and front and center in the gossip columns.
Now that Leeds is all in on Aston Villa’s Emi Buendia, Turgeman appears to be a player who will be reassessed in the summer rather than in the coming week or two.
Turgeman, who can play through the middle and wide on the left, might assist balance the exits of Bamford and Solomon, should the former and latter say their farewell later.
Dor Turgeman finds Ruud van Nistelrooy’s old ketchup bottle metaphor – tap on the glass and watch the goals flow like sauce from a jar – particularly apt. The Israel attacker, Solomon’s international colleague, scored his first goal off the bench in a 5-1 victory over FC Ashdod.
Now the ketchup won’t stop coming. Neither will the aims. Turgeman scored again the following week, then twice in Saturday’s 4-1 triumph over Maccabi Netanya.
After five games without a goal, this makes it four in three for an attacker who, while he still has a long way to go in terms of consistency, obviously has the talent to put together a really good run of form.
Turgeman has now scored 13 goals in 26 games in all competitions. An average of one in every two matches.
Turgeman is pleased to bounce back as he inspires Maccabi Tel Aviv’s surge.
“It’s a privilege to be a starting striker for Maccabi Tel Aviv,” adds Turgeman, who also demonstrated a generous spirit by passing up a hat-trick opportunity by giving a penalty to his out-of-form teammate Weslley Palati.
“You must prove yourself and continue to score goals. “I’m here, doing my best on the field.”
Turgeman’s finest may pave the way for a move to Elland Road.
According to rumors from Israel, while Dor Turgeman is considering a move to Spain, Maccabi Tel Aviv may decrease their demands to £4 million this summer.
Turgeman is now valued at £6 million – his employers are understandably hesitant to sell in the thick of a title struggle – but waiting until the summer could potentially help Leeds, even if just financially.
“He has become a beast on the field,” Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Zarko Lazetic says, emphasizing the type of work ethic that will appeal to his Leeds counterpart, Daniel Farke.
“[Turgeman] is superb at pressuring and scoring goals. He is playing in really great shape.”
