Nottingham Forest have been keen to sign a striker during the transfer window with some interest in a number of players – including Brentford talisman Yoane Wissa.
The Reds’ owner Evangelos Marinakis has made no secret that he wants a striker. Forest are currently third in the Premier League and the ambitions for the campaign have shifted somewhat with 16 games remaining.
Forest have been linked with Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The deal could prove a useful one but it’s unlikely that they will want to lose him with the Molineux-based club embroiled in a relegation battle.
Forest has also scouted Wissa. The Brentford talisman has 11 goals this season, one more than Cunha, and it is clear that Forest would like to add a proven player to their squad.
Brentford issue an official response to Nottingham Forest regarding Yoane Wissa.
Sky Sports News have delivered an update on the situation and Forest look set to be frustrated, with Brentford rejecting the opening offer and the Bees adamant that Wissa will stay with the club.
Brentford and Brighton have established themselves as the benchmarks for recruitment in terms of buying and selling. The Bees have investigated lesser-known European countries and clubs in search of hidden talents, including Wissa, who joined from Lorient, France.
With Ivan Toney leaving to increase his bank account in Saudi Arabia, Wissa has stepped up. He is now widely regarded as Brentford’s main man, and Thomas Frank, understandably, does not want to lose him.
Sky Sports claims that the plan is to keep him until the summer. As a result, Forest must now decide whether it’s worth returning with another offer.
Forest also scouts the South American market.
Murillo has signed a new contract with Forest this week. He’s an excellent advertisement for clubs looking for jewels in South America, and it appears that Forest isn’t entirely dismissive of that region too.
Forest likes Igor Jesus, a Botafogo striker who produced last season and helped the team win the Brazilian Championship for the first time in its history.
Another player on the Forest’s radar is Yuri Alberto. He knows Murillo well, having played alongside him for Corinthians, and he nearly joined Southampton during the summer transfer window.
It is unclear whether Jesus or Alberto will continue to be major targets. However, it appears like things are progressing in one direction or another, and Marinakis appears to be going to any length to meet the deadline early next month.
Wissa, on the other hand, may not be that player, with this update unsurprisingly dealing a setback to Forest’s efforts to sign another forward.
