Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo will not be sealing a return to Rangers, according to the Daily Mail.
The news outlet reported on 23 January that with the Nigeria international earning around £70k a week, he won’t be expecting to make anything less than that in what is likely to be the final big contract of his professional career.
Gers are trying to drive down their wage bill and considering younger players, so a reunion with the 28-year-old is not on the cards even though Southampton are open to selling him for the £6million they paid to sign him.
Rangers should not look to re-sign Joe Aribo.
It makes sense for Gers not to pursue Aribo’s services, despite his previous success at Ibrox.
Signing him will demonstrate that there is no plan behind the scenes to construct a team for the future, and they are returning to tried and true names.
The club’s recruitment is clearly disorganized, but acquiring Aribo would also disrupt their wage structure.
Whether the 28-year-old would be willing to return to Ibrox is another question, given he has already played in the Premier League and would prefer a sideways move if possible.
