Rangers have held negotiations with Lyall Cameron’s camp about signing the midfielder this summer, according to Scott Burns.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox since the winter transfer season began, but Burns believes the Gers will not spend any money on new arrivals this winter.
Burns, a Daily Record journalist, spoke on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (21 January) to provide an update on the current situation with both parties.
“It’s now about moving players out to try and free up budget for this window,” stated the player.
“The second one they’re working on is Lyall Cameron, and I believe there have been negotiations with his team about a possible agreement.
“The deal will be for the summer, I don’t see Rangers paying out any more fees in this window unless they move players on.”
Lyall Cameron would be a fascinating addition for the Rangers.
Rangers pulled off a similar coup to Cameron last summer, signing Connor Barron on a free transfer alongside Philippe Clement’s team.
However, one of the most significant differences is that the Dundee midfielder has a few more years of experience and can play both advanced and defensive roles in the heart of the pitch.
This season, the midfielder, formerly regarded as “fantastic” by Tony Docherty, has been employed in a more defensive role, although he has still scored 15 goals in 29 games across all competitions.
While Rangers welcomed Nedim Bajrami and have finally found a spot for Ianis Hagi in the squad, it would be beneficial to add another creative player to their roster.
The young Scotsman would bring creativity to Clement’s squad, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he challenged for a first-team berth right away.
It does, however, make sense for Rangers to wait until the summer to bring him to Ibrox given their midfield is now somewhat full, with other parts of the squad in much more need of reinforcement.
