Nottingham Forest could be poised to make another major announcement following the announcement on Tuesday night that Murillo has signed a new contract with the club.
The Reds defender has been a revelation and has been rewarded with a contract extension. He has signed a new contract that keeps him at the City Ground until 2029, dealing a blow to the world’s elite clubs.
Murillo was pursued by four Premier League clubs over the summer. He was essential in Forest’s survival last season and has been equally impressive this season.
Manchester City considered signing Murillo before he moved to Forest. At £10.6 million, the defending champions may now regret they had tried a little harder to sign him.
With transfer business unlikely to be busy this month, the Reds are definitely attempting to lock down the present crop. Forest now appears to be preparing to make another major statement.
Nottingham Forest ready to make a statement about Chris Wood.
It has been a long time coming, but the talisman appears to be here to stay. According to The Athletic, Wood, who has 14 goals this season, has reached an agreement with Forest for a new two-year contract.
Wood joined Forest for £15 million in January 2023. Initially, the move was met with some criticism from the fan base, who felt he was past his prime and wondered what he would add to the Forest squad.
However, he has exceeded expectations at City Ground. Wood is now the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League and ultimately, he’s proved absolutely everyone who dared to write him off wrong.
Wood is due to sign a two-year deal with the club, with an announcement expected soon. Wood has drawn interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS, but it appears that his career will stay at the highest level for another two years.
Forest need a striker to work alongside Wood.
The fact that Wood is staying shouldn’t deter Forest in their quest for a new striker. At 33 years old, the Reds player will still need to rotate, and Taiwo Awoniyi’s form is currently in question.
It’s no surprise that Forest want Matheus Cunha. It feels like a trade that may be done this month with question flags hanging over the future of the Wolves player.
Forest has also expressed an interest in Yoane Wissa. Wood is one of only a handful players who have scored more goals than Brentford’s striker this season, and he would be an intriguing addition.
Evangelos Marinakis wants to sign a striker this month. However, with the January window notoriously difficult to do business in, tying Wood down to a new deal could be the best piece of business this window has to offer.
