Cyriel Dessers could “throw his toys out the pram” after being replaced as Rangers’ first-choice striker, according to Kris Boyd.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with an Ibrox exit during the winter transfer window, having only started two of his last 15 appearances for the Light Blues.
With 13 goals in his first 25 appearances since signing from FAR Rabat, Hamza Igamane has become Philippe Clement’s favoured goalscorer, which could cause a stir if Dessers stays in Scotland.
Speaking via The Scottish Sun’s Go Ballistic [21 January], Boyd said: “I get the fact that he was the first choice at the start of the season, and now finds himself out. He might be frustrated but I don’t think he’s a bad boy.
“I don’t look at him and think, ‘He’s going to throw his toys out the pram’ as such but that might happen now if there’s no way of him getting him getting that jersey back.
“The way it looks, he doesn’t because Igamane is Rangers’ No.9.”
Cyriel Dessers to throw Rangers tantrum?
Would Dessers seriously be to blame if he was not able to secure a move away from Ibrox this month, remaining on the bench, and he started to act up?
The Nigerian has put up with a lot of stick, much of it fair, due to his pure number of missed chances, but he still has 38 goals in 87 appearances since making the move from Cremonense in July 2023.
Obviously, finding a suitable move for the striker, one which suits all parties, is much easier said than done, but the Gers might have to force a move so that a disturbance is not caused.
With how the current campaign is going for the Light Blues, Dessers throwing a tantrum is the last thing Clement needs right now, especially with the team still fighting in multiple competitions.
