Leeds United are sitting nicely at the top of the Championship table after a 3-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon, with emotions running high during the Yorkshire derby.
Manor Solomon scored after only three minutes in an easy victory. Leeds fans had to wait another 85 minutes for their team to score again, this time through substitute Largie Ramazani.
Ramazani’s brilliant cameo saw him volley an effort at goal for Leeds’ third, but Ao Tanaka used his footballing knowledge and technical ability to backheel the ball into the net to seal the victory.
Leeds recorded their 16th league win of the season in their 27th game, while also keeping their 17th clean sheet, which will have relieved Illan Meslier. However, Wednesday captain Barry Bannan did not fare well.
Barry Bannan is angered by Leeds United player Brenden Aaronson.
Leeds pushed for a second goal in the second half while attempting to close the backdoor. Brenden Aaronson, the ever-present livewire, tried in vain to make things happen and tumbled over in the penalty area.
Michael Ihiekwe delivered a shoulder charge that left Aaronson tumbling in the box, which the referee waved away. However, Wednesday skipper Bannan reacted angrily, believing Aaronson had dived.
According to Graham Smyth of the YEP, “Angry Barry Bannon urges Aaronson to get up after brutal shoulder-to-shoulder challenge.” I’m not convinced Aaronson had any say in where he ended up.
Brenden Aaronson struggled to shine in Leeds’ victory on Sunday.
Aaronson has the lowest FotMob rating of any of Leeds’ starting eleven players. Nonetheless, a solid score of 6.9 placed him higher than any other Sheffield Wednesday player.
Brenden Aaronson’s stats for Leeds vs Sheff Wed:
- 90 minutes played, 6.9 FotMob rating (worst of all Leeds starting players)
- Two successful dribbles, one touch in opposition box
- 38 touches, 24 completed passes, four misplaced (86%)
- Five duels won, six lost. Fouled three times, two fouls committed
Aaronson remains the side’s weak link, despite shining in other games, like as the win over Derby County. However, he will continue to start while Leeds is cautious in the January window.
