Leeds United defeated c on Sunday. The scoreline suggests a simple victory, but the Owls gave it everything they had at times.
Leeds United recaptured their top spot in the Championship table from Sheffield United with a win against the Blades’ Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Unlike most teams who visit Elland Road, the Owls looked to press Leeds United. It presented Leeds with a few issues as Wednesday moved quickly on the counter, but in the end, Wednesday’s aggressive style may have suited Leeds.
Daniel Farke’s team dominated the game late on as Wednesday sought a way back in. Manor Solomon scored first, but following goals came from Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka.
Tanaka scored his second league goal of the season with a clever finish in injury time, sliding the ball beyond Owls goalkeeper James Beadle as Ramazani shot into the box.
Simon Grayson is impressed with Ao Tanaka’s goal against Sheffield Wednesday.
Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson spoke on LUTV following Wednesday’s win about Tanaka and his goal, which left Grayson in amazement. Largie Ramazani fired a shot towards goal, and Tanaka, 26, deftly flicked it past the Owls’ goalkeeper for 3-0.
Grayson went on to discuss Tanaka’s overall skill and presence, stressing his ‘great potential’ and the fact that he is gradually but steadily developing an eye for goal.
“It’s a beautiful finish.” Grayson stated. “I enjoy watching this kid play.” I think he’s an incredible talent, and he’s demonstrating some creative skill, and it’s great to see him rewarded with goals in recent weeks.”

Not the first time Simon Grayson has been blown away by Ao Tanaka’s talent
Ao Tanaka’s skill has already impressed Simon Grayson, who praised him after Leeds’ 2-0 win against Derby County in December.
The former Leeds manager remarked of Tanaka: “He keeps it simple and moving. He fills in the gaps, and he excels at aspects of the game that few people consider to be his strongest suit. He understands the game and reads it quite well. “A huge influence.”
Tanaka has emerged as a key player for Leeds in recent months. As Grayson previously stated, he is a player who keeps things simple, but his goal against Sheffield Wednesday demonstrates that he also has some class.
It’s frequently that extra touch of quality that propels teams over the finish line in the fight for promotion.
