Liverpool are currently at the mercy of their competition in the transfer market.
Rival teams now have free access to the Reds’ top players as a result of their own contract saga.
The players in question are Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil Van Dijk, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season. Unless considerable progress is made in negotiations, they will all depart Merseyside for free when the season ends.
According to recent sources, two of the trio’s fates could be decided sooner rather than later, which isn’t a good sign for the Reds.
Saudi Pro League club is closing in on a terrible double deal.
Saudi Arabia’s interest in Salah has been well documented, and particular links with Al-Hilal have increased in recent weeks, with a member of the Saudi Football Federation even suggesting that a contract is already in the works for next summer.
However, nothing has been finalized, and Salah is said to be eager to extend his time at Liverpool.
Van Dijk has been notably silent about his contract, and as the club’s captain, this stance has surely aided Liverpool’s title run, since his focus on the task at hand has never wavered.
Despite the skipper’s dedication, a shocking new report from Khaled Al-Shenaif, a pundit for KSA Sports channel, claims that deals for Salah and Van Dijk are almost complete.
“According to the information we have, Al-Hilal president Fahad bin Nafel and Saad Al Lazeez are currently in London to finalise the signings of a 2003-born player and Mohamed Salah.”
Salah is a 99% Al-Hilal player, and Virgil van Dijk is pretty close.
Khaled Al-Shenaif, pundit for the KSA Sports Channel.
“Everything has been agreed upon,” Al-Shenaif adds. “The only thing left to do is have both players sign. This transfer will take place over the summer, prior to the Club World Cup.”
Is this it for Salah and Van Dijk at Liverpool?
Although nothing has been officially verified, whispers about Salah’s departure to Saudi Arabia have persisted since the season began. Talk about Van Dijk joining him has also increased during the last week.
Liverpool fans will most likely have to wait a little longer to learn the fates of two of the club’s greatest players, but this latest development will come as a surprise to many of the Anfield faithful.
Salah and Van Dijk are still scheduled to play in Liverpool’s encounter against Brentford on Saturday afternoon, but it may not be long before their futures are resolved.
