Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Botafogo attacker Luiz Henrique, citing a “opportunity not to be wasted” for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The Reds understand the importance of this winter window. They are third in the Premier League table and have an eight-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, so any January business must be calibrated against the risk of interrupting their momentum.
However, as Italian website Firzenze Viola points out, the prospect of improving the squad in order to secure a top-four spot is an opportunity not to be passed up. According to reports, winger/striker Henrique is on Forest’s wanted list, but the versatile 24-year-old will have stiff competition.
According to reports, the Reds and Crystal Palace are putting “strong pressure” on Henrique to sign, while Lyon is also interested. All three teams are vying for the Brazilian international, with Fiorentina vowing “not to give up” despite the “uphill” battle.
The Italian outfit seemed to be particularly concerned about losing to Evangelos Marinakis, fearing “another prank” from the Forest owner. Firenze Viola recall how Fiorentina lost the Europa Conference League final against Marinakis’ Olympiacos in May, and how defender Nikola Milenkovic moved to the City Ground in the summer after impressing the Greek billionaire in that match.
Botafogo is apparently willing to sell Henrique, and the player himself is interested in a move to Europe. A price tag of €40 million (£34 million) is being discussed as the Brazilian club waits “for the best offer” from the former Real Betis player’s admirers.
Nuno prioritized wide-area strengthening over the summer. The Reds signed Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa to give competition and cover for Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Henrique, it is suggested, would be a “nice gift” for the Forest manager this month, with time to adjust to English football given the other options on the table.
The Reds are eager to strengthen their attacking ranks before the window ends on February 3. Striker Chris Wood has performed admirably this season, although Taiwo Awoniyi’s future is questionable due to interest from West Ham United.
