This January transfer window has seen Leeds United make no acquisitions. However, the Whites have now been denied what would have been their first winter window signing, despite how swiftly the transaction came about.
Leeds United supporters are beginning to worry about why the team hasn’t signed anyone and why no one seems to be even considering moving to Elland Road at this time.
Aston Villa’s Louie Barry and Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath are just two of the numerous names that have been cited in the ongoing news, such as Leeds United’s interest in Nico Elvedi, which is thrilling for fans.
However, there have now been reports in Portugal that Leeds’ €4 million attempt to acquire D’Avilla (£3.4 million) has encountered a snag. According to Portuguese team Record, the Whites’ attempt to sign D’Avilla is essentially finished because the Ivorian was denied a work permit.
D’Avilla has not fulfilled the requirements to relocate to England, and there is no indication that Leeds will try to sign him again. He would have been Leeds’ first January transfer acquisition.
Leeds United’s hunt of a midfield player suffers a second setback.
D’Avilla was the target of an offer from Leeds United, according to recent rumors from Portugal. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, who is six feet two inches tall, is now a member of Leiria, a second-tier Portuguese team that is currently sixth in the Liga 2 rankings.
But it’s since been reported in Portugal that Leeds’ €4million move for D’Avilla (£3.4million) has hit a roadblock. Portuguese outfit Record state that the Whites’ move to sign D’Avilla is all but over after the Ivorian wasn’t granted work permit.
D’Avilla hasn’t met the requirement to move to England and there’s no suggestion that Leeds will make a second move to sign him either. He would’ve become Leeds’ first signing of the January transfer window.
The attempt by Leeds United to sign Dje D’Avilla has failed.
Leeds appears to be focusing on other parts of the field at the moment, including goal, where Illan Meslier may leave Leeds United, and up front and center back, where there aren’t many players.
However, it appears that Farke is also keeping an ear out for a new central midfield player, as seen by connections to D’Avilla and Ben Sheaf of Coventry City.
But they’re all interested from outside. Leeds is still winless in 2025, and their opponents are getting better in the Championship standings, so they might not be the most desired squad near the top of the Championship right now.
Signings are still expected before the February 3rd deadline, though. Dje D’Avilla won’t be joining Leeds, though.
