Before the transfer window ends in early February, Nottingham Forest will be working nonstop behind the scenes to attempt to complete some deals, and it appears that West Ham wants one of the team’s players.
Last night, the Reds and Liverpool drew 1-1 at the City Ground. With goals from Chris Wood and Diogo Jota, Forest has already defeated the league leaders by four points this season.
The recruitment team will be working hard to make sure the squad is in the best possible shape, even if Nuno Espirito Santo will be totally focused on football.
This month, Taiwo Awoniyi was connected to West Ham. Given that Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Niclas Fullkrug are currently unavailable for selection, Graham Potter needs a striker.
As negotiations with Forest commence, Taiwo Awoniyi’s transfer to West Ham gains momentum.
This link is obviously one that isn’t going away. Awoniyi appears to be the man that West Ham is desperately looking for since they are in dire need of a new striker.
West Ham and Forest are currently negotiating a deal that would bring Awoniyi to the London Stadium, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany.
Earlier last week, there were rumors that Forest would not let go of Awoniyi. However, because the clubs are currently in communication about doing something this month, something might have changed in that regard.
After Forest was promoted back to the Premier League in the summer of 2022, they made their first acquisition, Awoniyi, from Union Berlin, for £17.5 million.
Throughout the 2022–2023 campaign, he was invaluable. He scored 11 Premier League goals and, in actuality, maintained the team in the top division despite missing a whole season due to a groin injury.
Nevertheless, with Wood in excellent form, this season has been difficult. He has only scored one goal this season and lacks the kind of playing time he needs to regain any true goal-scoring form.
Igor Jesus is what the forest wants.
Given Awoniyi’s present form, it’s all well and good to dump him, but a replacement will be required. Wood is currently 33 years old, therefore Forest cannot afford to risk an injury and then start games without a proven striker.
That brings up potential successors for the club. One player that Forest is interested in is Igor Jesus, who appears to be coveted by several Premier League teams before the transfer market shuts.
The Reds do require another striker, whether it’s Jesus or not. Another player that Forest likes is Yuri Alberto; maybe the striker for Corinthians will join Murillo on Trentside.
Awoniyi should be sent out with the best wishes if the time comes for him to depart. He will always be remembered as a member of that team because he helped Forest stay in the Premier League when all hope seemed lost.
