Liverpool may soon become quite active in the January transfer market.
A quick and substantial cash injection could be ready to breathe new life into Liverpool’s January preparations, with chief executive Michael Edwards granted the power to spend.
The Reds have so far kept their cards close to their chest, but Darwin Nunez’s potential departure could open the door to up to three new additions for Arne Slot.
According to rumors, the misfiring forward has already had a £70 million bid from Saudi heavyweights Al-Hilal.
However, Liverpool are claimed to have turned down that offer in the goal of recuperating as much as £85m, however they are likely to come to the table if additional £5m is added to the Middle Eastern bid.
And with that money, Edwards may duplicate some of the success from his initial tenure at Anfield.
Given that Mohamed Salah’s current contract expires in less than six months, one would undoubtedly be looking for a replacement.
If he does depart for free, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo will undoubtedly be very high on the agenda.
The Cameroonian forward has only 18 months left on his contract in west London and has been performing at a high level in the Premier League since Brentford’s promotion in 2021.
He already has 13 league goals this season, trailing only Salah and Erling Haaland, and may come in as a primary striker when Nunez is unavailable.
Thomas Frank would like to keep onto his talisman, but £50m or even less could be enough to prise him away from the London side.
Defensive reinforcements have also been emphasized, with Jamie Carragher among those calling for another left-back to relieve the pressure on Andy Robertson.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is frequently linked with a move to Merseyside, and while Andoni Iraola would be hesitant of losing one of his important players, a hefty deal may induce a reconsideration if monies from Nunez’s sale are reinvested in a problem area.
Julio Soler, the left-back Bournemouth purchased from Paraguayan club Lanus for an initial £6.6 million, could help to soften the damage.
He made his debut against West Brom in the FA Cup and Iraola remarked that he “liked his game” after playing the whole 90 minutes.
With Nunez leaving a gap by leaving for Saudi, Liverpool appear to have opted against replacing him with a youngster such as Jayden Danns by moving for Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas.
The Reds are reportedly already in talks over a £21m move for the 19-year-old, and could sweeten the deal by allowing the Greek star to stay in Germany for the remainder of the season.
