According to Sebastiao Sousa Pinto, Leeds United has submitted a £3.3 million bid for UD Leiria midfielder Dje D’avilla, with “objectives included”.
The Sport TV Portugal journalist reported on X (14 January) that the Whites have offered “in the region” of £3.3 million for 21-year-old Ivorian D’avilla, who plays defensive midfield.
Portuguese second-tier team UD Leiria has sought a fee of £3.3 million for D’avilla, and several clubs are interested, but complications with a work permit make a move to Elland Road, or England in general, impossible.
Sousa Pinto stated, “Leeds United have submitted an offer of around £3.3 million to sign Djé D’avilla, including objectives.
“Transferring to England is deemed difficult due to the work permit. Several clubs have expressed an interest in signing the midfielder. “The Union of Leiria has requested £3.3 million.”
Dje D’avilla’s transfer approach will perplex Leeds United fans
While there aren’t many United fans who don’t want to see additions in LS11 before the winter window closes, a £3.3 million bid for D’avilla may leave many scratching their heads.
Daniel Farke has made it clear that transfer action in and out of Elland Road before February 3rd would be limited, and defensive midfield is possibly the most well-stocked section of his entire squad.
With Ilia Gruev returning two months early from a knee injury sustained against Harrogate in the FA Cup on Saturday, and Ethan Ampadu also recovering ahead of schedule, Farke has plenty of choices.
With the previously absent duo joining the established midfield axis of Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka in his double pivot, Farke’s engine room requires little work as compared to his alternatives up front.
An approach for D’avilla may divert focus away from the more pressing need to recruit a striker or goalkeeper before the window closes, but the promise of new arrivals will keep fans hoping that further reinforcements are on the way.
