Nottingham Forest could look for a new striker during the January transfer window.
That has nothing to do with what Chris Wood might have done, as the New Zealand striker scored 12 goals in the first 20 games of the season.
This season, Shay Given has given Wood a new nickname, but there isn’t much competition on Trentside for guys who can lead the line.
Taiwo Awoniyi was hailed by Jamie Carragher on Monday, although his goal against Wolves remains his solitary strike of the 2024/25 season.
Wood and Awoniyi face little competition, so it remains to be seen whether Forest will attempt to sign another striker.
Igor Jesus approves Nottingham Forest’s move.
According to The Sun, the Botafogo attacker has now given the go-ahead for Premier League clubs to transfer amid ties with Forest.
Fulham manager Marco Silva and Ipswich are also interested in signing the striker, who is valued at £21 million, before the transfer market closes.
Jesus, a 23-year-old striker, has 56 goals in 168 games for his current club, who won the Brazilian championship for the first time this season.
It was recently rumored that Arsenal wanted Jesus, but Botafogo were unwilling to allow him depart on loan, as the Gunners had requested.
Jesus matches the profile that Forest will search for.
Given how well Wood is performing, Forest will not want a striker who will whine about a lack of first-team opportunities.
The 33-year-old will continue to be the team’s main talisman, and if a striker is brought in, he must bring something unique to the table.
Jesus is a player who would have to establish himself in England, and with Forest performing well in the league, the pressure would be relieved to some level.
At 23, he still has plenty of time on his side, and the Brazilian talisman appears to be the type of player the recruitment team is looking for.
