Liverpool has been linked with a stunning deal for Nottingham Forest prodigy Elliot Anderson. Forest only recruited the 22-year-old from Newcastle in the summer, but he is quickly emerging as one of the season’s best purchases as the Reds dominate the Premier League.
They are third in the table and the only team to have beaten leaders Liverpool this season, forcing manager Nuno Espirito Santo to acknowledge that his aim during the transfer window is to keep his high-flying side together.
However, Liverpool appears to be undeterred. According to the Sun, Arne Slot’s rampaging Reds are interested in Forest’s £35 million recruit, but it is unknown if they would make a bid this month or wait until the summer to pursue their case.
The Sun claims: “The league leaders have watched the midfielder’s last six games and the Nottingham Forest ace has been earning rave reviews from their scouts.”
Forest are not under any pressure to sell the 22-year-old, who came to the City Ground as part of Newcastle’s obligation to sell a homegrown player in order to comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules. It was a decision that puzzled and enraged Magpies fans, but it has paid off handsomely for Forest.
Looking ahead to the month ahead and the pressure they may face to sell their key players, Forest manager Nuno stated: “You never know what will happen in the transfer market, but our goal is to keep our players together.
“That’s difficult because teams are considering all options, including ours. “This is our top priority.
Forest, who started the new year in third place following five consecutive victories, face Nuno’s previous club Wolves on Monday (8pm kick-off).
