Exclusive: Leeds hold discussions with out-of-contract Star

Leeds United are considering offering Jamie Shackleton a new contract, according to Football Insider.

His contract at Elland Road is set to expire at the end of the season, but the Whites want to offer him new terms to avoid losing him on free.

Manager Daniel Farke is said to be impressed with the 24-year-old, despite his inability to gain a regular starting berth for the promotion-chasing side.

Shackleton has not started a league game for Leeds since October’s 4-1 triumph over Huddersfield Town, but he did play in the FA Cup fourth round draw against Plymouth Argyle last month (January 27).

He has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing one assist in a 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town in August.

The Englishman played in seven of Leeds’ first nine Championship games this season before losing his place to 17-year-old wonder Archie Gray, who was shifted from midfield to right-back.

Shackleton joined the Yorkshire giants’ academy in 2006 and has made 92 appearances for them in all competitions.

While Shackleton is a midfielder by trade, he has spent the majority of his time this season playing right back.

He has also played as a left back, central midfielder, and right midfielder.

Leeds are third in the Championship table following their 1-0 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Friday (2 February).

They will next face Plymouth Argyle in a fourth-round FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening (6 February).
