Already in the January transfer window, it appears like Leeds United may struggle to sign some of their rumored targets, with Premier League clubs making their presence known.
Championship clubs frequently find themselves unable to compete with Premier League clubs in the transfer market. Even Leeds United, who have their fair share of resources and a strong pulling power despite being in and out of the top division.
One recent example is Abdukodir Khusanov. Leeds have reportedly made a proposal for Khusanov, but the club is now out of the running for the RC Lens man’s signing, with Manchester City now showing an interest in the centre-back.
It might be the first of many similar storylines for Leeds in the January transfer season. However, that will not discourage Leeds United from making bids for some interesting new signings in the January transfer window.
Leeds United provided an update on Ben Godfrey’s transfer status.
One potentially fascinating acquisition for the Whites in January is Atalanta centre-back Ben Godfrey on loan. Leeds are reportedly interested in signing Godfrey on loan, despite the fact that the former Everton player has only appeared once in Serie A since leaving Goodison Park for £10 million in the summer.
Leeds are certainly interested in signing a centre-back, with Khusanov and Godfrey being connected, as well as Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele and Nico Elvedi of Borussia Monchengladbach, Daniel Farke’s former club.
Now, it appears that Leeds have been dealt a setback in their pursuit of Godfrey, with journalist Rudy Galetti saying that Tottenham have’shown the most interest’ in signing the 26-year-old in January.
Galetti said on X: “Tottenham have showed the most interest in Ben Godfrey, since they see the Atalanta midfielder as a potential defensive reinforcement. Wolves, who are also hunting for a CB, have requested updated information on him.
Why Ben Godfrey update could be good news for Leeds United
For Leeds, Godfrey is just one of many centre-backs linked right now. But this rising Spurs interest could really be excellent news for the Whites.
Ahead of January, Tottenham were linked with Pascal Struijk. It’s also been stated that Spurs are anxious to sign a new centre-back in January, like Leeds.
So Spurs’ focus on Godfrey could mean a shift away from Struijk, who will remain at Leeds for the rest of the season.
Farke may simply want to move on from Godfrey and focus on another centre-back target.
