Journalist: 49ers could recruit international “beast” for Farke “if Leeds get promoted”—report

They’ve shown an interest in the past.

Leeds United are already being linked with summer transfers if Daniel Farke’s side wins promotion from the Championship.

    Leeds’ January Window

In January, the Whites focused mostly on outgoings and contract renewals. Djed Spence’s season-long loan from Spurs was cut short, while Luke Ayling went on loan to Middlesbrough, and Ian Poveda joined Sheffield Wednesday.

Darko Gyabi and Lewis Bate left on loan, while Leo Hjelde and Sean McGurk joined Sunderland and Swindon Town permanently. Connor Roberts joined Elland Road on loan from Burnley.

Farke was pleased with the window overall, remarking following Leeds’ 1-0 victory over Bristol City on Friday:

“It was critical that we retain our core players, and we did. We made it clear that we would need one or two defensive players.

“We wanted to bring in an expert, and we found one in Connor Roberts. He’s a top-tier character who is completely committed. It seems like we are the Welsh national team!”

Roberts joins fellow countrymen Jo Rodon, Dan James, and Ethan Ampadu in Yorkshire, where Leeds is competing for automatic promotion. If they rise, the focus will shift back to the summer transfer market, with the 49ers Enterprises possibly eyeing another long-term target.

Leeds linked with Ben Brereton Diaz.

Journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking with CaugtOffside and relayed by TEAMtalk, provided an update on Ben Brereton Diaz’s future during the last 48 hours. If Leeds is promoted, the reporter believes they will revive their interest in the striker.

“In the summer, I wouldn’t rule out Leeds revisiting an old aim in Ben Brereton Diaz. He is now on loan at Sheffield United, although there is no possibility to make the move permanent. So, if Leeds are promoted, don’t be shocked if they re-sign Brereton Diaz, who has been on their radar for quite some time.”

Leeds’ interest in Brereton Diaz goes back to 2021, when Marcelo Bielsa was still in control of the club. Former Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray backed the striker in 2020, describing him as a “beast”.

“Brereton looks like a beast now, and he can score goals. I see it every day while training. He’s a fantastic boy, and all of our lads adore him.

“He’s filled out now, and he’ll work extremely hard for this squad. He’s really talented and can score goals. I’m certain that Ben Brereton, given enough game time and the opportunity to get in front of the Armstrongs and Dacks, can and will succeed.

“I can see Brereton’s physicality level these days, and he’s truly looking like a man today. He also scored a wonderful goal. He worked extremely hard, and the more he plays, the more confident he will become.”

The Chilean international thrived at Ewood Park and is now on loan from Villarreal to Sheffield United in the Premier League. He’s already scored two goals for the struggling Blades in just 177 minutes of top-flight football, so if the Whites win promotion, he could be a wise addition to compete with Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe, and Georginio Rutter.
