Celtic have issued a strong criticism following crowd misconduct during Thursday night’s 3-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.
Two worrisome occurrences occurred during the match: player Arne Engels was struck by a coin, and manager Brendan Rodgers was targeted by a missile thrown into the dugout.
“We understand Police Scotland is now investigating two distinct cases.
“The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.”
The incidents at Ibrox have once again raised safety worries for Celtic players and staff. Not long ago, a Celtic medical team member required sutures after being struck by an object thrown from the Rangers’ hospitality area.
There should be accountability and swift action to address what is a recurring issue. Police Scotland’s investigation is ongoing, and the focus will now turn to identifying the individuals responsible for the appalling actions witnessed on the day.
The away support is supposed to be back for the next two derbies this season with a net installed over away fans at both Celtic Park and Ibrox.
